Description
Indications
Respiratory tract, UTI, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint, intra-abdominal infections, peritonitis, cholecystitis, septicaemia, meningitis.
Dosage Adults:
2-4 gm/day IV in equally divided doses every 12 hr, may be increased up to max 8 gm/day (equiv to cefoperazone 4. gm/day) in severe infections. Children: 40-80 mg/kg/day in 2-4 equally divided doses, may be increased up to max 180 mg/kg/day in severe infections. Newborn infants to 1 wk: 40-80 mg/kg/day every 12 hr. Max sulbactam dose in children 80 mg/kg/day. For cefoperazone dose >80 mg/kg/day, given cefoperazone separately.
Advice to Patient Avoid alcohol during treatment.
Interactions
Physical incompatibility with aminoglycoside, doxycycline meclofenoxate, ajmaline, hydroxyzine, procainamide, aminophylline, prochlorperazine, cytochrome C, pentazocine, aprotinin.
Adverse effects
Diarrhoea, nausea & vomiting, maculopapular rash & urticaria, haematological changes, headache, fever, inj pain, chills, increase in liver enzymes.
