Description
Indications
Type Il diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled by diet and exercise as monotherapy when metformin is not tolerated with other hypoglycaemic agent including insulin, when these alone are inadequate.
Dosage Adults:
Dapa 5mg Tablets once daily. Combination sulphonylurea or insulin therapy, consider lower dose of sulphonylurea/ insulin. Children: Not recommended.
Pharmacokinetics Absorption: Rapid. Metabolism: Hepatic. Renal. Bioavailability: 78%. Half-life elimination: 13 hrs. Time to peak, plasma: Oral: 2-3 hrs. After high fat-meal: 2 hrs. Excretion: Urine (75%). Faeces (21%).
Interactions
Diuretics, pioglitazone, antihypertensive, ACE inhibitor, angiotensin II antagonist, DPP4 inhibitors, incretin mimetics.
Adverse effects Genital infection, UTI, dysuria, polyuria, back pain, dyslipidaemia, increase haematocrit, hypoglycaemia.
